About volunteers

Our volunteers contribute greatly to the health and wellbeing of animals at the Shelter and assist in duties such as bathing, grooming, walking, training, maintaining the shelter environment and raising community awareness by attending local fairs and events. Even just playing with the animals will assist in their social experiences.

Selection as a volunteer

Our volunteers need to be able to demonstrate:

• Ability to handle animals.
•Past experience with animals.
• Availability to attend on a set day each week is preferred.
• Ability to engage and interact with staff and other volunteers in a positive and constructive manner.
• Strong commitment to Council's policies and procedures in relation to the care and management of animals.
•Ability to meet OHS/risk management/work safety requirements.

NEW INTAKE - SEPTEMBER 2012

The shelter will be holding a new intake of volunteers in September 2012. If you can make it along to the public meeting we'll hold at the shelter on Thursday evening, 20/9/12, starting at 6pm I'd like to see you there.

The meeting will run for around 40mins and will cover what we need from our volunteers. Helpers will need to be able to commit around 2 hours once a week, either between 9-11am or after 2:30pm. The morning session is the most beneficial for the shelter as it helps get the dogs out of their kennels whilst they are being cleaned.

There will be 6 volunteers selected from the group and they will be on board for 6 months after which all volunteer positions will become vacant and we go through the selection process again.

See you on the 20th September!!

Phill Evans
